MEET THE DIRECTOR

Kelli Pierson

Kelli Pierson is the proud director of five performing ensembles at Marshall High School, sponsor of the a cappella group Noteworthy and co-sponsor of Tri-M Music Honor Society. Mrs. Pierson began as a long-term substitute at Marshall in Spring 2016 and the following fall, began as full time choir director.  She could not be happier to be settling into the GCM family. Marshall Choir has consistently received Excellent and Superior ratings at the Virginia State Choral Assessment and for five consecutive years has been named a Blue Ribbon School (with top groups receiving straight superior ratings in Choir, Band and Orchestra). She has thoroughly enjoyed the collaborative nature of the Performing Arts Dept and has loved being involved with the theatre productions and collaborative works like Carmina Burana (2017). This past spring, Mrs. Pierson had the opportunity to music direct The Sound of Music with Statesmen Theatre and conduct the pit orchestra.

Mrs. Pierson is a graduate of James Madison University, where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Music Education. During her time in the School of Music, she sang in The Madison Singers, The JMU Chorale, Opera Chorus, Treble Chamber Choir, and sang in and student directed the Women’s Chorus. Some of her favorite memories in The Madison Singers included going on tour to Charleston’s Piccolo Spoleto Festival and performing a masterclass with The King’s Singers.

In addition to singing in choral ensembles at JMU, Mrs. Pierson was also a member and music director of the award winning a cappella group, The BluesTones. Under her direction, the group toured locally and nationally, competed in the ICCA’s and SoJam A Cappella Festival, and produced CARA’s Best Female Collegiate Album in 2014. Mrs. Pierson currently performs with the Voce Chamber Singers under the direction of Richard Giarusso, as well as her church worship band.  In her free time, she loves to spend time with her friends and family, go on walks with her mini golden-doodle Henley, and make music with her incredibly talented husband Braden.
